Supporting Local Home Builders’ Associations Through Our Three-Tiered Membership System
A Strong Voice for the Industry
What makes our three-tiered membership system unique is the seamless way the different levels of the organization come together to support one another. This dynamic network allows for the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and resources that may not be possible under a different structure. For example, a chapter home builders’ association (HBA) may assist the provincial association in developing a report on a housing policy issue that affects that local region. In turn, the provincial association may support that same chapter association in connecting with speakers for an event they’re hosting.
The network itself is stronger than any individual node, and that’s what makes our organization so impactful for the industry. Together, we’re able to share ideas, support each other, and work towards common goals with one voice.
The Canadian Home Builders’ Association Elevating Locals
For local chapters, being part of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) network means access to national data, resources, and tools that they can benefit from and share with their members.
CHBA hosts events across the country and regularly publishes reports like its Municipal Benchmarking Study, which local HBAs can use to drive their own policy priorities. In addition, CHBA gives local voices a seat at the federal policy table through its different committees that HBA members can become a part of.
Provincial Home Builders’ Associations Helping Drive Change
Provincial home builders’ associations work closely with local HBAs to collaborate on member services to elevate their voices at the provincial level. For example, the Ontario Home Builders’ Association works hand-in-hand with local HBAs in planning regional housing summits across the province. It also hosts regional committees that bring together industry experts seeking to solve issues specific to certain areas of Ontario. This is in addition to the other subject-specific councils and committees that OHBA runs across the province.
By combining resources, the provincial and chapter associations may be able to co-publish reports or co-host events that otherwise may not be possible. Moreover, OHBA amplifies the voice of local HBAs at the provincial level, providing the industry with a unified strong voice by bringing together the 28 locals and over 4,000 member companies in Ontario.
All three levels of our association work together to build the future of Canada. Our missions are aligned in helping combat the affordability crisis and building more homes across the country. By working together, our voices are more powerful, and we’re better equipped to support each other in achieving our shared goals.
