Rules for Scramble Tournament Play

Team Composition

  • 4 players per team.
  • All players play each hole together as a team.

Teeing Off

  • Each player tees off on every hole.
  • The team selects the best drive (most advantageous position).
  • All players then play their next shot from that chosen spot.

Playing Subsequent Shots

  • After selecting the best shot, each player places their ball within one club length (no closer to the hole) of the chosen ball’s position.
    • On the green, players place their ball within one putter head length of the chosen ball.
  • This process repeats until the ball is holed.

Marking the Spot

  • It’s important to mark the spot of the chosen ball before anyone hits from that location.
  • This is especially important on the green to ensure fairness and proper placement.

Recording the Score

  • Only one team score is recorded per hole — the number of strokes it took the team to hole out using the scramble format.

Strategic Tips

  • Choose the best ball based on lie, angle, and distance, not just distance.
  • Use the best putter in the group to go last to give feedback to others.
  • Let longer hitters take aggressive lines off the tee when others are safe.
